Pond Liners 30 Mil HDPE

Pond Liners 30 Mil HDPE

Material Overview

Find the ideal protection for a pond with flexible, long-lasting 30 Mil containment liners for ponds available at Tarp Surplus. Pond containment liners placed along the insides of ponds can help contain liquids and prevent spreading or contamination. They are an optimum method for reinforcing ponds and containing liquids in the event of a spill. When water is not contained, flooding could be the unfortunate result. A durable tarp for containing pond water can go a long way toward remedying this potential hazard, although it is also important to ensure that the liner is installed correctly. Polyethylene often represents the best material for a pond liner, as long as it is completely waterproofed to avoid any possibility of leakage. A thin coating also is paramount.

  1. When choosing a containment liner for a pond or any other application, it is important to obtain an accurate measurement of the containment area.  Measure the area within the containment location at the widest width, longest length and deepest depth. Please refer to the below diagram as a measurement guide.

  2. When building a containment area it is important to include an anchor trench that is no less than 12 inches wide and 12” deep. The anchor trench is used to prevent the liner from slipping down the slope grade.

  3. Fabrics, including polyethylene liners, have a certain degree of expansion and contraction due to the change in seasonal temperatures. This fact must be considered when installing the liner. Be sure to allow for some ripples throughout the liner when placing it on the containment floor. The colder the environment, the more ripples that are needed. Installing a liner without accounting for expansion and contraction, can lead to liner failure. Add at least 2-3” to your final measurement to allow for ripples on the liner install.

Get a precise measurement of the area to be contained, measuring at the longest, widest and deepest areas, and then include an anchor trench in your containment area at least a foot wide and a foot deep so that the liner will not slide down the slope grade. Tarp Surplus has pond liners ranging from 30 feet wide to 100 feet wide. These poly liners are appropriate for agricultural, construction, residential and commercial ponds. They have an average thickness of 20 mil, with a tongue tear resistance of 80 pounds, a puncture resistance of 140 pounds, an average mass of 9.3 ounces per yard and a grab tensile strength of 265 pounds.

Polyethylene liners can sometimes expand or contract depending on the temperature. Make an allowance for some rippling throughout the liner when placing it on the containment floor. More ripples are needed in colder environs. The liner could fail if it is installed without addressing expansion and contraction.
